Footsteps in the Snow

5 January 2026 by
Joanna Husson

Blue skies and birds singing in the snow,

Another day has come and I'm still thinking of you in the cold.

Outside, winter has spread its wings like a butterfly awakening,

And with its chilling voice,

Sang a lullaby for nature to sleep.

Inside of me, a desolate land covered in white has invaded my heart and soul,

And in this ocean of loneliness,

I'm searching for you,

Hoping I could find some traces you would have left for me in the snow.

But there's nothing here,

Only an infinite, blinding white void.

Is this the reason why I can’t see you ?

Or are you somewhere far away,

Searching for me too ?

Have you even been there lately?

Blinded by the light,

Yet convinced you would find me?

In the middle of the cold the flame of my love warms the air,

And even though you are not there,

The beating of my heart as I think of you,

Feels like a warm hug

In this freezing world.

So I close my eyes,

And while you come to life within my mind,

I turn all this ice into a comforting place.

The warmth of your hand in mine gives me love and hope,

Like a tender kiss left on my lips.

Suddenly all the white around me becomes colourful,

Like a frozen rainbow fallen onto the snow.

You are my blue, my yellow, my red,

My primary colours,

My forever love.

With the memory of you in my mind, I open my eyes,

Carry you warm inside my heart,

And keep walking this earth,

Searching for your footsteps in the snow.

Written with love, always
